I learned a lot of things from this class. I
wasn't a very creative person before though I am a marketing student. This
class is a very different consumer behavior class. I thought it would be much textbook reading, but instead of that, we read those interesting novels.
I finished all of them, and I had lots of thoughts I wanted to discuss
with the classmates. However, I knew my English is not that good so probably
they misunderstood my words and also didn't really care.
Reading some of the books in both English
and Chinese version helped me to improve myself. I remembered one time I read
one of the assignments and it used a Chinese history to be evidence to prove his point, but it doesn't make sense even it was not used in the right place.
But we didn’t have time to talk about that book after the quiz so I couldn't
point it out.
All in all, although I couldn't explain my
design very well, I got all of my final group members to vote for my storyboard in
the silent voting part. They agreed with my idea which is the empty campaign that
combined what we learned in this class for the whole semester.
Black Friday! I didn't quite understand why it came with lots of ads and promotions although I already spend so much money because of the good deals!
I learned that Thanksgiving is the day to give thanks to God for giving a good harvest and to appreciate people who helped you. (Also, the day with family and having Turkey!) and the next day after Thanksgiving is "Black Friday." But I never knew about Black Friday until I got here.
According to the information on the Internet, this is a formal "buy" day for Christmas gifts, since 1930s.
But where did "Black Friday" and "black" come from? On the surface, this is the day that the United States opens a lot of shops different from the usual time, and some of them will open at five or six o'clock in the morning. This is the time for shopping. From the early darkness, it seems enough "black" for it!
However, there is also a saying that the day's business books show profit, which is traditionally called being in the "black" rather than a deficit, which is called being in the red. So, profits equal "Black Friday."
No matter what the origin of Black Friday is, it is interesting to note that because of the changing times, this day has become more of a pure consumer day, and has come to us "across the ocean." In the end. It is an important day for businesses, and a discount day when consumers profit.
In the spirit of the times, Black Friday is followed by Cyber Monday. People do not have to get up early to go to the mall, or shopping in the middle of the night. Black Friday can be the day of online shopping in the United States to buy discounted products, and then wait for things to be shipped from across the sea. This is the time we live in, "Black Friday."
Music relies on business. For example, if a pop singer wants to hold a concern, firstly, he needs people to charge the budget of the cost, how much per ticket they would sell to make sure they can earn most profit from it. Secondly, they need a marketer to help them advertising. The advertisement is a necessary strategy for getting profits.
The success of music can lead a new field for business. Talk about Korean, recent years their bands are very popular in Asian even America. Especially, young people are their “fans.” For example, I am a fan of Super Junior, when I am a middle school student. With the success of this kind of boy band, more and more Korean band debut, and most of them get success as well. Theses band host concerns around the world, and sales their record in the actual store, and also online music web. These bands help Korean record company to expand their market to all over the world. As a result of this trend, it becomes a pillar industry in the national economy of Koran.
Under the development, the music also develops more and more commercial. For now, music is not only a way people express their feelings and satisfy an audience. But it now plays a critical role as a product. But the commercial development of music has two side effects. For instance, The Voice, the reality show. On the one hand, they offer opportunities to those people who are talent in singing to achieve themselves. Also, it helps the music to spread very quickly and nationally. Personally, I like those singers who are very creative; they make changes in the original song base on their appreciation, creation, and experience. On the other hand, what makes a musician start compose? Where did the inspire come from? Many musicians would say the inspire comes from their real life. They follow their heart; they are telling audience stories. I like their pure idea. But recently, lots of musicians are under the pressures, which may come from the company, the public. That is forcing them to create music which they don’t really like. Besides, also there are a bunch of real commercial music which is created to advertise the product. Besides, the record company spend money on the album art, shoot MV, and so forth. Although the album art and the MV are fabulous, the essence is the music itself. The real good music doesn't need such fabulous appearance; it is fabulous because of the music itself. Fortunately, whatever music become more and more commercial, the music as the bearer carrier of emotion, never had to disappear. It still keeps it’s inherent which is to express feelings from your heart. For business, music is a strategy to help achieve their success. Fast food business, for instance, McDonald’s they always play very quick like pop music, according to the psychology, it suggests that the fast rhythm will make people eat faster. However, in a coffee shop, they prefer to play slower rhythm music, like classical or jazz music, because they want to offer their customer a soft environment so that customers can enjoy their coffee.
All in all, music and business are internally related, we can apply our knowledge from music into the study of basic business. There are some external interactions between music and business as well. Music helps business to create a new market. In return, business makes music develops more and more commercial. Music and business are not only related to business, but music is around us in our real life.
Have you heard any story from Disney? Is your child addicted to the fairy tale world? When I was a child, I was also attracted to fantasy stories. However, while I grew up, I realized everything is different from the stories I read. I start thinking about what’s the real life be, how they affect me. Parents usually thought Disney fairy tale can bring children happily and satisfy, but they never know it influences their children deeply, not only belief but also behavior. Those stories make children have deviant behavior, believing illusion and they never know what real life is going to be after the happy ending. In fact, Disney fairy tales influence children negatively.
We all know “Snow White,” which is the most famous fairytale in the world. The princess whose beautiful appearance was jealousy by the evil queen then suffered murder. But actually the title of the story is “Snow White and the seven dwarves,” so the evil queen and Prince “Charming” weren’t the main point of the whole story. Nevertheless, recalling how did Snow met the seven dwarves: she entered a strange house rudely and slept deeply on the bed she didn’t know who own these. According to it, we can figure out she is a person who really impolite and without a sense of crisis. She influences children to consider that irrupt someone’s house unauthorized could be fine and they won’t concern about whether here is a safety or not. The other weird stuff that normal maiden won’t do in the story stays with seven strangers. I don’t think this would be okay for any father tells the bedtime story to his daughter. Disney princess truly influences children’s behavior a lot, they’ll probably think those manners are fine and allow; because these men are nice so she can live with them? This is not a correct “pro-social” behavior. Children won’t know if one day they will occur any problem even more dangerous situation. This deviant story is affecting children’s behavior.
These are not the biggest illusion problem I want to talk about. In most of Disney fairy tales, the princess is weak and beautiful. “Sleeping Beauty” is a good example of this. She was depicted as extremely demure, rarely taking a proactive stance in the story. She just waits for the prince that she only met once and come to kiss her then break the curse until the ending. It makes little girls dream about that they don’t need to do anything then someday there will be a guy fall in love with her and give her a true love kiss to save her whole life. On the other hand, little boy should be a hero and save girls. They are going to face lots of challenges just for a girl he might never have met her before. Little boys imagine their girlfriend even wife should be the most beautiful woman in the world in the future, and get her without afraid any difficulty. Therefore, it also makes them fantasize to be a hero of a pretty woman. Children believing illusion cause the fairytales seriously, aren’t they?
Children don’t know about the real life after the happy ending. Prince and princess lived happily ever after,” every fairytale give this wonderful ending. The problem in married life is much more than being single. In the case of Disney’s stories, the princess is obedient and weak, all of them need to be protect by a prince. She seems can’t survive without princes, once they lost him, she’ll get into trouble. But in real life, marriage needs mutual to maintain. Some children just dream about fall in love with his/her “charming” and get married to him/her. They thought this is the awesome conclusion for their life, but it is totally wrong. In fact, they’re starting a new life that more difficult than they consider before. We can still give an example from the fairytale characters but it doesn’t show after the end: prince and princess become king and queen of the kingdom. The king would be so busy with lots of affairs, it proves the king must have no time to accompany with the queen, they might get some problem just doesn’t let children know that.
Did you notice that the Starbucks are not the same? Invented in the early 1990’s, China’s Singles’ Day is a very recent addition to the holiday calendar – but one that’s really caught on with Chinese consumers. Helped by aggressive marketing of the obscure ‘anti-Valentine’s’ holiday by China’s huge online retailer Alibaba, in 2014 Singles’ Day became the world’s largest online retail event. This year Chinese consumers spent £6bn online over the 24 hours of Singles’ Day.
China’s celebration of bachelorhood isn’t the only huge annual commercial event. The world marks a number of occasions with massive spending splurges – and with consumers increasingly spending their money online, it’s ecommerce that’s most elastic to these seasonal trends.
Perhaps the most famous – but no longer the largest, thanks to China’s singletons – is the ‘Black Friday’ shopping event. This started a few decades ago as a US holiday stretching over the weekend after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, which now culminates in ‘Cyber monday’. This first Monday after Thanksgiving is the biggest day for online purchasing in the mature ecommerce market of the US. The whole weekend event now reaches other markets outside the States, with raised ecommerce activity in places including Canada, Brazil, and Singapore as well as the UK during this period.
But Black Friday is old news. With consumers in big emerging markets such as India, China and Brazil embracing online shopping, a range of other cultural festivals are turning into major ecommerce events.
In China and other markets such as Korea and Vietnam that mark the lunar calendar, New Year is a big event. Commercial activities tend to shut down over the holiday period, so it’s all about the advance sales. Chinese New Year can fall anytime between 20 January and 20 February and tends to be quite an extended season. Like the drawn-out holiday season in the US, Chinese New Year sees several weeks of changed patterns in consumer spending rather than a single day or weekend.
It’s the growing middle classes, fairly new to ecommerce and the internet in general, driving a lot of these new online seasonal booms. India’s expanding ecommerce market means the festival of Diwali sees increasing online spend each year. A survey by PayPal found that three quarters of Indian consumers were intending to shop online during the Diwali season. As the Indian middle classes emerge as a serious consumer base online, that’s potentially a huge seasonal market.
In Japan online spending often sees a summer lift. Many Japanese employees receive bonuses and these are awarded during the summer period. It’s common to see a rise in spending on luxury goods and leisure activities, including travel. Purchases such as these are increasingly happening in an online environment.
Over in Russia, there’s a rise in household expenditure at the end of summer, as the annual start of the school year is marked as a major occasion. Sending a child back to school properly equipped is often a major financial undertaking and some businesses will even offer loans specifically for this occasion.
In Brazil, you can expect to see a bump in spending around mid-June as the country celebrates Día dos Namorados (Lovers’ day). There are similar days dedicated to romance worldwide but the dates often vary across the world. Taiwan even celebrates two: one in February and one in July.
"PPAP" is a song sing by an about 40 years old Japanese fictional character called "DJ Piko Taro." The news report points out that "PPAP" will explode because it is in line with the "Popular Net Film Formula," which is addictive rhythm, meaningless lyrics and simple funny dance steps. As a result, more than 7 million people click through YouTube for a month, and more than 55 million people read on Facebook!
The report also mentioned that although this strange dance music in Japan caused by high school group boom, and even let a lot of idol groups, artists are imitating shooting, but the Japanese mainstream local media did not report this, and the Japanese community network, Also did not lead to very high discussion. But other countries of the users "poisoning deeply." The report also pointed out that South Korea PSY uncle.
First of all, there are many foreign words in Japanese; the so-called foreign language is from Europe and the United States to absorb the phrase in and Katakana. General perception, the Japanese English pronunciation strange that is because Japan has such a foreign language system, long down will be accustomed to converting the foreign language Japanese katakana automatically. But the Japanese foreign language quite thorough. They have been long accustomed to their "Japanese pronunciation." Therefore, there are a lot of Japanese comedians will take the Japanese English pronunciation strange thing as a funny idea.
Olive Garden's $ 9.99 spaghetti restaurant chain is starting again. A total of seven spaghetti options are available, one of which is Gluten-Free wheat bran. You can choose either white sauce, red sauce, pate or cheese sauce. The topping is the choice of sausage, meatball, chicken and Shrimp. We can finish a bowl and get another bowl until you are satisfied! However, dine-in only!
Their price is fair even cheap. The foods are large and delicious. Also the good dining atmosphere makes people want to go again and again. Every meal time must be full though the restaurant seat a lot, but still needs to line up and wait for at least 10-30 minutes to have seats.
However, observe a country's cultural level and the quality of the people. It often can be fully reflected by the food culture. For a correct "Never Ending Bowl" culture is actually need some mature cultural conditions to support. For example, European countries do not violently immerse themselves in this kind of restaurant, but a restaurant with a preference for specialties.
Due to the limited appetite of customers, many restaurants operate on a low-profit basis, with many restaurants purchasing at a reduced cost and the food being more rough. In most restaurants, customers pay less for a restaurant than a regular restaurant.
Have you try the secret menu of Starbucks yet this summer? If not, then you are definitely outdated! You might see a lot of people posted these colorful and unique drinks that general consumer didn't know how to order these “hidden version” of drinks from Starbucks. http://www.starbucks.com/menu
Since this May, netizens started rumor that we can go to Starbucks and order this “secret menu “that is not on the board. Just tell that you want the “Pink Drink”, then the clerk will make this fantasy beverage for you.
In fact, the secret menu is just a myth of Starbucks. As long as the requirements of consumers, the company will provide customized drinks. In the case of "Pink Drink", it is made up of common materials: strawberries, berries, fresh strawberries or blueberries. Customers do not have to specify the material, the clerk can make it for you directly.
However, since this June, Pink Drink's peak was replaced by Purple Drink and Orange Drink. If you visit the store and the clerk hear these terms still confused, inform the ingredients explicitly.
The "Purple Drink" is made up of tropical iced tea, soy milk, vanilla syrup, plus a spoonful of fresh blueberries, and the "orange drink" is orange mango juice, coconut milk and vanilla powder.
Nowadays, most of people are working at service industry; it’s not an easy work. Because they need to consider customers’ demand first, achieve their requirement as best as possible. Thus, customers spend money for getting the best service. Of course, people who are working want to earn the money from customers. If the employee doesn’t do well, it’ll influent reputation of the whole company. For these reasons, customers are always extremely correct. To be a position in service industry, they need to give customers their best service attitude. First of all, customers spend money for
having the good service. They want to feel comfortable and relax from the deal.
Some people think that how much we pay, represent how much good service
feedback we can get. I had been to a restaurant, which cost me 50 dollars for a
steak (haven’t include tip yet). I have already knew that the owner of the restaurant
regard giving best service for customers, and they really do it very well. Not
only when I got in the restaurant or leaved, they bowed for welcome and thank
us. But also, whatever I asked for, they must be responsive. The waiters always
having a smile on their face although they were busy and tired. I felt home
from home over there in spite of I spent a lot of money for it. I even didn’t
really care about how steak tastes, just enjoyed in the wonderful service. However,
I heard that there was a table of customers next to us was not so satisfied
with the steak. The manager of this restaurant felt apology and compensate
them, never argue with the customer. This is a good example to show being a service
industry must to deem that customers are always correct.
Second, it isn’t only spending much money
means customers can exchange good service. Though they might just buy a small stuff,
the person who is servicing should help customers as well as he/she can. There
was one time, I went to a coffee shop and I order a cup of hot latte back in Taiwan. It cost
me less than 2 dollars. When I got it I felt that it was not heavy enough as
usual. I asked the employee for adding more, but he rejected. He argued with me
and told me it’s normal amount. I was going to be angry; he thawed it away impolitely
and returned my money back unexpectedly. I was so surprised, yet other
customers also saw it, most of them left with me. The shop won’t earn any money
from us. Also, we’ll tell our family and friends do not go to that coffee shop anymore
even though they have good taste of coffee. They lost reputation of their store
and it’ll truly affect their business. If that employee accomplishes what I want
him to do, their shop won’t be influenced. In fact, I was right, it was he didn’t
do well on his job.
Third, without losing reputation of
company, service industry wants to earn more and more money from customers for
sure. This would be a big reason that service industry always says customers
are correct. In order to get more revenue, company would require their staffs
must to show best attitude with customers. I have a friend who works in Starbucks. She told me that sometimes we order the ice drink without ice won’t be full enough. However, it is
according to the normal ratio with ice inside. Many customers will ask them for
add some milk until full. Actually it’s not allowed, the store manager will rebuke
them. But they still need to achieve customers’ requirement. This is the most
important skill to represent their company. Also, no customer knows that before
and Starbucks still doesn’t announce to customers about this rule. Therefor,
lots of people like to shop at Starbucks. That’s why they can become a big
scale company and earn so much money. They always think customers are correct.
Nevertheless,
sometime they’ll still encounter some mad customers. Those people rely on employees
need to consider customers’ right first, they demand everything even is unreasonable.
They have poor attitude and like to scream to the employee. During this situation,
if the employee doesn’t appease or satisfy them, they’ll like to intimidate the
waiter and ask for seeing their boss. Even more, they like to frighten the
whole store stuffs and said they’ll tell the mass media to make the company
close down. However, I think those people are minority; during that period
happen, employee doesn’t need to think those bad customers are correct. But employees
still need to resolve the problem with the smile face and good attitude.
Customers pay money for good
service quality. It’s not depending on how much they pay, just because they do
pay. For earn this income be at ease and justified, the service industry must
to think that customers are always correct. Follow this theorem; the company
will get lots of revenue from customers absolutely.
